High-Protein Snacks for Between Meals
After a session you reach for whatever survives an hour in a kit bag, so format decides more than the nutrition panel. Our high protein snacks shelf holds bars, cookies, wafers, savoury crisps and a vanilla protein mug for the microwave, dispatched from the 4ecoshop warehouse in the UK. It suits a lunchbox, a gym locker and the evening when you want something sweet. See which format fits which moment, and how multipacks change the weekly shop!
What counts as a high-protein snack?
The line is drawn at a fifth of the energy coming from protein, and that is a label rule rather than a marketing habit. On this shelf the gluten-free vanilla mug from Amylon clears it, with 35 g of protein per 100 g. The bars, cookies and wafers beside it are protein snacks by build, and the figures sit on each pack.
Past that number, what separates one from another is how it behaves outside the kitchen.
Protein cookies and wafers for a sweet break
The softest of the high protein treats here is a cookie, closer to a bakery biscuit than to a bar. Critical Cookie from Applied Nutrition comes in salted caramel with chocolate chip at 85 g, and in white chocolate with raspberry at 73 g. The Weider protein cookie is bigger at 90 g, in caramel choco fudge, double choc chips and American cookie dough.
A protein wafer goes the other way, dry and light, with nothing left on your fingers. The Fitking cocoa wafer from Allnutrition is built at 80 g. The Weider whey-wafer stops at 35 g in stracciatella, vanilla yoghurt and chocolate. A 35 g wafer fits a coat pocket and comes back out in one piece. For a firmer bite, our protein bars shelf sits beside this one and takes in cereal and energy bars too.
Savoury option: protein crisps
Crisps cover the salty side of the shelf, and Allnutrition makes them in Himalayan salt at 60 g. It comes as a single 60 g bag that you can add to an order on its own. The rest of the Fitking flavours sit together on our healthy crisps shelf, where barbecue, BBQ ribs, pizza, sweet paprika and cheese and onion share the line. Crisps also travel better than a soft cookie in a warm bag.
Which protein snack works after training?
In the changing room the useful answer is whatever you can eat with one hand. A bar handles that better than a cookie, and the peanut and caramel bar from Trec at 49 g is small enough to finish quickly. Naughty Boy goes bigger at 65 g in white chocolate, caramel and biscuit. The Weider 60 % Protein Bar sits at 45 g in salted peanut-caramel and cookies and cream.
The Amylon mug asks for a little more, since it takes 150 ml of milk or a plant drink and three minutes at 800 W. That makes it a snack for the kitchen at home, not for the gym bag. If a full bar feels like too much straight after a session, our healthy bars shelf holds fruit and cereal bars alongside protein ones.
Multipacks for the week ahead
Most of our high protein snacks are sold by the box, though the crisps and the mug come as single 60 g packs. A protein bar multipack of 24 covers a working week, and the cocoa wafers come in a 32-pack. Multipacks can also be collected from an InPost Locker, open 24/7 in England, Scotland and Wales. Build your week from one box and match the format to the moment, from a pocket-sized wafer to the mug you make at home.
