Organic Herbal Teas and Infusions
What you pour at nine in the evening and what you reach for at seven in the morning are rarely the same drink. Our herbal tea shelf runs from loose herbs by Dary Natury, through bagged blends by Clipper, Lebensbaum and Yogi Tea, to the Apotheke line packed for children, with plenty of caffeine-free options sitting alongside the green teas. Match the infusion to the hour and to the way you like to brew it!
Herbal, fruit and green infusions in the range
Three families of drink sit side by side here. Herbal infusions come from leaves, flowers, roots or bark – on our Dary Natury shelf that means single herbs and organic infusions, from Organic Mugwort Herb 50g to Organic Sea Buckthorn Tea 100g, weighed loose rather than portioned into bags. Build your own blend from single herbs in our dried herbs section.
The bagged side runs through Clipper, with Organic Green Tea with Jasmine & Peach 40g and Green Tea Lime & Ginger 40g, then Lebensbaum Organic Rooibos Classic Tea Leaf 100g, Yogi Tea and the Apotheke line boxed for children. Green tea carries caffeine, rooibos tea does not, and that one difference settles most evening cups.
Brewing loose leaf herbal tea
Loose leaf herbal tea needs more room than a bag and a little more patience. Use one heaped teaspoon per 250 ml cup, warm the pot first and brew in a mesh basket rather than a tight ball, so the leaves can open properly. Fruit infusions and rooibos hold up for five to eight minutes without turning harsh.
Herbs traditionally used on their own, such as mugwort, sit at the longer end of that range, while green tea is finished in a couple of minutes. What is left over keeps in the fridge and works cold the next day: chilled, it is still a caffeine-free tea, and pressed bottles from our healthy juice section mix into it for a summer jug.
Water temperature for herbal tea
Not every infusion wants boiling water. Herbs, fruit and rooibos go in straight off the boil at 95–100°C, since dried leaves, roots and fruit need that heat to give anything up. Green tea is the exception: pour at 70–80°C and give it two to three minutes, or the cup turns bitter. With no thermometer, boil the kettle and wait a couple of minutes before pouring.
Organic certification in tea
The word organic on a tea box is a certified status, not a description. An organic herbal tea has to clear the same bar as any other certified food: at least 95% of its agricultural ingredients grown organically, with an approved body such as EU Organic or the Soil Association auditing the chain.
The certifier's logo and code are printed on the pack, and that marking settles the question rather than the name on the front. We carry the same badge through to the listing, so a certified line can be picked out before you open a single product card. Those lines are gathered together in our organic products section, brand by brand.
